Navigating Life Without a Label: ET’s Journey Surviving the System

About the Guest: ET / Aarush Ray

ET is a 20-year-old college student who struggles with reading, but has never been formally diagnosed. In a world where labels can be empowering or limiting, ET made a conscious decision to navigate his academic and personal challenges without one. In this raw and honest conversation, ET opens up about what it means to live with invisible struggles. From hiding reading difficulties to managing the emotional toll of not fitting into school systems, this episode offers a powerful reminder: not every story comes with paperwork, but every story matters.

We talk about masking, misunderstood intelligence, and the fear of being “found out.” We explore what self-worth looks like when you’re always just about managing, and why ET chose to focus on coping mechanisms instead of clinical validation. Through his quiet courage and self-awareness, ET offers a perspective that is rarely heard—one that challenges how we define support, resilience, and success.

The Themes

  • Masking and missing signs, even as a psychology student
  • Rejection sensitivity and how it sabotages relationships
  • ADHD and high intelligence: the underdiagnosed “smart kids”
  • Emotional dysregulation, school struggles, and adult burnout
  • The truth about meds, motivation, and managing stigma in India
  • Why our education system is failing neurodivergent minds
  • How can we rethink parenting, diagnosis, and self-worth

Unmasking ADHD with Shannon Fernandes

About the Guest: Shannon Fernandes

Shannon Fernandes is a psychologist, existential researcher, and the founder of Cowork—a neuro-affirming productivity space that challenges how we work, think, and relate to time. He is also the author of Epistemology for Psychological Research and a content creator who has helped bring conversations on ADHD, neurodivergence, and identity into the Indian mainstream.

Shannon takes a deeply reflective, existential approach to ADHD, questioning how we learn or function and why we are expected to conform to certain definitions of productivity, intelligence, and success. A neurodivergent individual himself, he bridges academic research with lived reality, bringing clarity to concepts like motivation, attention, masking, and agency.

His work explores the tensions between diagnosis and identity, structure and freedom, assessment and understanding. Through Instagram, his psychometric startup CogVerge, and his teaching, Shannon is building a bold, alternative lens to see ADHD—not as a deficit but as a different way of being.
